LNG as a fuel
As the fuel related regulations are getting stricter in the maritime industry in order to meet the sustainable developments and environmental protection, new grades of fuel are being tested and put in operation. One such amazing fuel is LNG which is clean and cost effective.

LNG as a fuel reduces SOx by almost 100%, CO2 by 20-30% and NOx by upto 85%. It also offers high energy density per unit volume and lower engine maintenance cost. Only concern related to LNG is its storage requirements i.e -162 degrees Celsius and in specially designed insulated tanks. Another concern is boil-off gas handling which requires proper training and monitoring of LNG tank pressure and temperature. Major shipping companies are incorporating dual fuel engines that can switch between both the conventional fuel and LNG.
